libre-tea-glass-boxIt took me until well into my twenties before I first had the courage to try tea. I didn’t like coffee, so I assumed that I wouldn’t like tea. The health benefits drew me in, though, and I took the plunge. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I enjoyed it! It was over ten years later that I ventured into the realm of loose leaf teas. Oh how I wish I had discovered them earlier! The flavor (and benefits) just can’t compare to your run-of-the-mill packaged tea.

There was only one problem… loose leaf tea just doesn’t travel as well. I wanted to be able to steep my tea on the go and take those healthy benefits with me. That is when I discovered Libre tea glasses. Their tea glasses come in three styles… the 9-ounce Original, the 14-ounce Large, and the 10-ounce Mug. I have reviewed several of their products in the past, but this time I was sent the original 9-ounce in the beautiful  Garden Pink from their Libre Life Collection.

My glass was carefully packaged inside a box that looked ready for gifting. The package contained the three parts to the tea glass and a spare gasket for the lid. The pink color and delicate design is just so pretty! It’s that perfect blush pink that is not over the top, but definitely still feminine. It would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for a tea lover. 😉

libre-tea-glass-garden-pinkThe glass is sized just right to fit comfortably within my hand. It also fit easily into the cup holders on our car. This original-sized glass also fit into smaller cup holders that teh larger one did not, such as those in my mom’s older car and the bottle holder on my bike. Good thing, because this is a must for tea on the go! It was surprisingly lightweight for something constructed of glass, poly, and metal. All of the pieces appear to be well made and ready for many, many cups of tea.

Making the tea is super-simple. There are two methods that you can use. The first method is to put your tea leaves and water directly into the glass and then drink from the glass with the filter in place. The second option is to put the water in the glass, put on the filter, add your tea, put on the cover, and invert the glass to allow the tea to steep. You can learn more about how to use your Libre.

The first method mentioned is my preferred for most of the teas that I drink… even those with a limited steep time. I like that I can toss everything in and be on the go quickly. I typically drink my tea up while it’s still hot, so I’m not overly concerned about teas with a limited steep time. I’ve made many, many, many cups since receiving my first Libre Tea Glass. There is a little bit of a learning curve with finding the right amount of tea leaves to use and what temperature you want the water, but it didn’t take me long until I was making a great glass of tea every time.

libre-tea-glass-with-teaThe glass is double layered, so you can hold it with the hot tea in it and feel no discomfort or burning. It has a pleasant warmth that I find nice to wrap my hands around in the wintertime. The lid and strainer have nice large, strong threads so these lids stay on securely. My tea seems to hold warmth better than my usual mug, as well. The glass is stylish and also works well with other beverages… hot or cold… simply by removing the filter.

My only complaint is a small one. I wish that the glasses were dishwasher safe. I’ve mentioned this one before in other kitchen product reviews, so many of you know that I try to limit my hand-washing because of sensitive skin. Dishwasher-safe is always a big selling point for me. It’s not a surprise or uncommon in a double-walled product like this though. It’s a small concession to make for great tea on the go.

Pros: Tea on the go! Easy to make. Different methods of steeping to suit your situation and your favorite tea. Great travel glass for water and other beverages, too.

Cons: Not safe for dishwasher or microwave, but that’s pretty common for travel-friendly beverage products.

I received this at a discount in exchange for my opinion. As someone who relies on honest reviews to make purchases, I work hard to provide other consumers with a thorough, truthful, and unbiased opinion of my personal experiences.

Stay tuned! The Libre Tea Glass is part of our “Love Your Body” giveaway coming February 14th!
